Most bananas, including the ones you find at the grocery store, are notoriously picky: they're prone to disease, hate the cold, and can be tricky for home gardeners to keep healthy. Goldfinger was created to solve all of that. Plant breeders crossed a sweet, apple-flavored banana variety with a tougher, more resilient one, and the result is a banana that's naturally resistant to the major diseases that wipe out other banana plants, plus far more tolerant of cooler temperatures, wind, and dry spells than your average banana tree. That makes it a great choice for beginner gardeners — it's much more forgiving than other banana varieties.

In terms of size, this variety is normally around 12 feet tall. Give it full sun and rich, well-draining soil, and you can expect fruit within about 1–2 years. It's also more cold-hardy than most bananas, doing well in USDA zones 9 and up, so it can handle a chilly night here and there. As for the fruit itself, that's where Goldfinger really shines: when ripe, it turns golden yellow and has a sweet-tart flavor with hints of apple, and the texture is wonderfully creamy. You can even pick them while still green and boil or fry them like a plantain for a savory dish. If you've ever wanted to grow your own bananas but worried it would be too fussy, Goldfinger is the variety that makes it simple

How long will it take to start harvesting? Approximately 1-2 years if grown in ideal conditions.

Ideal Growing Conditions
USDA Hardiness Zones: 9-11
Protect young plants if temperatures drop below 50F. Once established, they can take brief periods of cold down to 32F but expect some leaf damage. The entire plant can die if temperatures drop below 32F. Perennial evergreen - will lose leaves if exposed to too much cold.

Height at Maturity: approximately 12FT tall at maturity

Sun: Full sun is best for maximum growth and production.
