Experience the vibrant flavors of the tropics with a “Barbie Pink” guava live plant. This unique guava variety (*Psidium guajava*) is treasured for its stunning pink flesh, delightful sweetness, and subtle floral aroma. Perfect for warm climates or for growing in a container with sufficient sunlight, “Barbie Pink” guava produces medium to large fruits that are excellent fresh or in jams, jellies, and desserts. To help your guava thrive, plant it in well-draining soil rich in organic matter, and provide full sun for at least six hours a day. Regular watering—especially during the fruiting season—ensures a healthy harvest, while periodic pruning helps maintain an attractive shape and encourages more robust fruit production. Whether you’re a seasoned orchard enthusiast or a curious beginner, growing “Barbie Pink” Guava is a rewarding way to bring a splash of tropical color and fresh, homegrown fruit to your garden or patio.
When can you expect fruit? If grown in ideal conditions, expect your first fruit in about 2 years. After that, guavas produce multiple flushes of fruit per year. In some areas, like in Florida they produce year round. This is a self-fertile variety so you dont need another guava tree to cross pollinate with.
Ideal Growing Conditions
USDA Hardiness Zones: 9B-11B if grown outdoors. Those of you in colder climates can grow in a large pot and bring indoors during the winter.
Cold Protection: This is a tropical plant, cold hardy to 25-30F.
Sun: Full sun is ideal for vigorous growth and abundant fruiting
Height at maturity: This is not a very big tree, it will grow to about 12FT, making it a good option to grow in large containers. You can prune it to maintain a smaller size.
Soil: I reccomend you plant this outdoors in a 3FT tall mound made of straight compost. Planting fruit trees in mounds elevates the root ball and helps prevent root rot. Can also grow this in a very large pot filled with 1/2 compost and 1/2 potting mix.
Water: Keep soil moisture consistent. Does not like being waterlogged. Once established, they are fairly drought-tolerant.
Fertilizer: Guava trees are relatively low-maintenance, but occasional feeding with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer supports vigorous growth and abundant flowering.
