Birdhouse Bottle Gourd Seeds | Grow & Craft Natural Birdhouses | Easy Garden Project
Lagenaria siceraria
Listing is for 1 packet of 10 seeds

Grow something truly special with Birdhouse Bottle Gourd Seeds — a fun and rewarding plant that’s perfect for gardeners, crafters, and nature lovers alike! These unique gourds grow into large, round-bottomed shapes with long necks that naturally resemble little birdhouses — making them a favorite for crafting, home décor, and creating natural birdhouses once dried and cured.

When fresh, the gourds are pale green and can grow quite large (often 10–14 inches tall). After harvesting, they can be dried to a hard, wood-like shell that’s easy to carve, paint, and decorate. Many gardeners use them to make beautiful handmade birdhouses, lanterns, bowls, vases, or fall decorations — the creative possibilities are endless!

Growing Tips:
Sow seeds directly outdoors once the soil has warmed to at least 70°F, or start them indoors 4 weeks early. Birdhouse gourds love full sun, rich soil, and lots of space to climb — give them a sturdy trellis or fence to grow on. They have a long growing season (about 100–120 days), so start early if you’re in a short-summer region. Harvest the gourds before frost and allow them to dry in a warm, well-ventilated area for several months until they harden completely.

This is a wonderful project for families, homesteaders, and anyone who enjoys turning garden harvests into functional art. Whether you’re crafting rustic décor or providing nesting homes for backyard birds, Birdhouse Bottle Gourds are a beautiful way to connect your garden to creativity and nature.

PLANTING
Germination: 14 days

Seed Sowing Depth: 1" deep

Sowing: Soak seeds the seeds overnight. It needs warm soil temperatures to germinate. Can direct sow once outside temperatures are consistently in the 70F's or above. Or start seeds indoors 6 weeks before your last spring frost date, in a larger sized pot like a solo cup, and place it over a heat mat. In warmer climates (zones +9) can also direct sow or start seeds in June/July to get another harvest before winter comes.

Days to maturity: 120 days

Shipping Information

Orders are shipped in 1-3 business days excluding holidays or delays due to natural disasters like hurricanes.

Seeds are shipped in bubble mailers so they will not be pushed through USPS roller machines which can damage the seeds. I will not ship seeds in an envelope for this reason.

Seeds will be shipped with no planting instructions to keep seed costs low to the buyer. Germination and plant care information is included in the description. I encourage each gardener to research specifics on how to be successful growing them. I also have lots of information on my TikTok, Instagram and YouTube channel all under the account name jerrasgarden. I started this shop to share my love of certain seed varieties and spread the knowledge of gardening. Please contact me if you can't find information or have additional questions.

Orders with live plants are packed on Mondays and Thursdays (excluding holidays or delays because of natural disasters. Plants are shipped in boxes with packaging material to protect them while they are in transit.

Refunds & Exchanges

No returns or refunds once shipped. I am not responsible for lost or damaged packages caused by USPS. Since there are so many factors that affect germination and growing success, no refunds or exchanges are allowed once seeds have shipped. These are the same seeds I use in my personal garden so I can attest to their viability. Seeds are fresh season to season.
