Black Sea Man Tomato Seeds - Determinate Beefsteak Heirloom Black Tomato Seeds
Solanum lycopersicum
Listing is for 1 packet of 15 seeds

Black Sea Man is considered a purple/black determinate heirloom tomato. It is one of the first determinate types of tomatoes I have ever grown and changed my mind about growing determinates because of its productivity. Plants are shorter (staying around 5FT), than indeterminates that can grow 15-20FT long vines in my Florida garden. It was also the very first large tomato to start producing, even earlier than many cherry tomatoes I was growing at the same time. Plants are loaded with clusters of 12-16oz sized tomatoes that are juicy, meaty, and full of flavor.

Tomato Characteristics

Determinate

Color: Purple/red with greenish purple shoulders

Flavor profile: savory

Average fruit size: slicer/beefsteak

Ideal Growing Conditions

Sun: Full sun

Water: Keep soil consistenly moist but not waterlogged

Fertilizer: Regular applications of an organic granular fertilizer, like Espoma Tomato-Tone greatly increase production. Please watch my YouTube video that explains my tomato fertilizer process and schedule: https://youtu.be/PHaXNGErTJ0

When To Sow Seeds: General guidelines recommend to start seeds indoors, 6-8 weeks before your last spring frost date. Hot climate (no snow areas), can also sow seeds indoors during the summer to transplant in the fall. Sow 2 seeds per 4 inch pot or solo cups with drainage holes cut out of the bottom, filled with sterile seed starting mix, cover with 1/4 inch of soil. Place over heat mats, use grow lights, and fertilize once the first set of true leaves appear to speed up growth.

Please watch my YouTube video on how to sow tomato seeds for complete instructions: https://youtu.be/imIFbCSuvBU

Please watch my YouTube video on how to transplant tomatoes into the garden: https://youtu.be/v0Di0vXnv9Y

Germination: 7-10 days

Days To Maturity: 75 days after transplanting

How & When To Harvest: harvest as early as when the bottom of the tomatoes start to blush in color or wait for more of the tomato to turn color while on the vine

Common Diseases: Tomatoes catch a ton of common leaf diseases caused by various pathogens that die when treated with hydrogen peroxide. If you notice powdery mildew, yellow spots, or black lesions on the stems, spray with 1 cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide per gallon of water to clean and disinfect. Repeat every 3 to 5 days until you notice the spread has stopped. If a lot of rain is expected, pre-treatment will help to prevent diseases. For severe leaf diseases use a stronger treatment like Monteray Disease Control.

Common Pests: The most common pest when growing tomatoes are aphids, mealy bugs, spider mites, and worms (like the tomato horn worm or army worms). All of these can be treated with spinosad

Shipping Information

Orders are shipped in 1-3 business days excluding holidays or delays due to natural disasters like hurricanes.

Seeds are shipped in bubble mailers so they will not be pushed through USPS roller machines which can damage the seeds. I will not ship seeds in an envelope for this reason.

Seeds will be shipped with no planting instructions to keep seed costs low to the buyer. Germination and plant care information is included in the description. I encourage each gardener to research specifics on how to be successful growing them. I also have lots of information on my TikTok, Instagram and YouTube channel all under the account name jerrasgarden. I started this shop to share my love of certain seed varieties and spread the knowledge of gardening. Please contact me if you can't find information or have additional questions.

Orders with live plants are packed on Mondays and Thursdays (excluding holidays or delays because of natural disasters. Plants are shipped in boxes with packaging material to protect them while they are in transit.

Refunds & Exchanges

No returns or refunds once shipped. I am not responsible for lost or damaged packages caused by USPS. Since there are so many factors that affect germination and growing success, no refunds or exchanges are allowed once seeds have shipped. These are the same seeds I use in my personal garden so I can attest to their viability. Seeds are fresh season to season.
