Chrystal Batavian Lettuce Seeds – Crisp and Sweet Lettuce Variety - Vegetable Garden Seeds

Chrystal Batavian lettuce combines the crisp texture of a head lettuce with the tender sweetness of a loose-leaf variety, offering vibrant green leaves that stay firm even in warmer weather. Batavian lettuces form dense heads but still deliver a light, airy bite, making them perfect for salads or gourmet sandwiches. Chrystal stands out for its delicate frilled edges and mildly sweet flavor, which develops further as the plants mature. Sow seeds in early spring or in fall, spacing them about 8–10 inches apart in well-drained soil, and maintain consistent moisture for the best results. Harvest outer leaves as needed for baby greens, or let the heads reach full size for maximum crunch and taste.

PLANTING
Germination: 7-10 days
Seed Sowing Depth: 1/4” deep
Sowing: Can direct sow after all danger of frost has passed. Or can start in seed trays/cells 4 weeks before the last frost date. In milder climates (like Florida zones 9, 10, and 11) can also start sowing in fall to grow through fall, winter, and spring.
Days to maturity: 50 days
Orders are shipped in 1-3 business days excluding holidays or delays due to natural disasters like hurricanes.
Seeds are shipped in bubble mailers so they will not be pushed through USPS roller machines which can damage the seeds. I will not ship seeds in an envelope for this reason.
Seeds will be shipped with no planting instructions to keep seed costs low to the buyer. Germination and plant care information is included in the description. I encourage each gardener to research specifics on how to be successful growing them. Orders with live plants are packed on Mondays and Thursdays (excluding holidays or delays because of natural disasters. Plants are shipped in boxes with packaging material to protect them while they are in transit.
No returns or refunds once shipped. I am not responsible for lost or damaged packages caused by USPS. Since there are so many factors that affect germination and growing success, no refunds or exchanges are allowed once seeds have shipped. These are the same seeds I use in my personal garden so I can attest to their viability. Seeds are fresh season to season.
