Fordhook Giant Swiss chard is a classic heirloom variety that produces large, crinkled dark green leaves with thick, tender white stalks that are both flavorful and nutrient-rich. Known for its impressive cold tolerance, this variety can withstand light frosts and is one of the hardiest types of Swiss chard you can grow—making it perfect for early spring or fall planting. Sow seeds directly in the garden after the last frost or start indoors for an earlier harvest. Grows best in full sun to partial shade with consistently moist, well-draining soil. Harvest outer leaves as needed for a cut-and-come-again crop all season long!

Germination: 5-10 days
Seed Sowing Depth: 1/4” deep
Sowing: Can direct sow or start in seed trays. In zones 8+ - Typically grown in fall, winter, and spring. If you live in colder climates you can grow during the summer as well.
Days to maturity: 55 days
Orders are shipped in 1-3 business days excluding holidays or delays due to natural disasters like hurricanes.
Seeds are shipped in bubble mailers so they will not be pushed through USPS roller machines which can damage the seeds. I will not ship seeds in an envelope for this reason.
Seeds will be shipped with no planting instructions to keep seed costs low to the buyer. Germination and plant care information is included in the description. I encourage each gardener to research specifics on how to be successful growing them. Orders with live plants are packed on Mondays and Thursdays (excluding holidays or delays because of natural disasters. Plants are shipped in boxes with packaging material to protect them while they are in transit.
No returns or refunds once shipped. I am not responsible for lost or damaged packages caused by USPS. Since there are so many factors that affect germination and growing success, no refunds or exchanges are allowed once seeds have shipped. These are the same seeds I use in my personal garden so I can attest to their viability. Seeds are fresh season to season.
