Grow one of the most dependable and productive heirloom beans around with Henderson Bush Lima Bean Seeds — a beloved variety introduced in 1888 that remains a garden favorite to this day! This compact, bush-type lima bean produces heavy yields of creamy-white, buttery beans without the need for trellising. The plants are self-supporting and easy to grow, making them ideal for gardeners with limited space or anyone looking for a low-maintenance crop that delivers big results.
Henderson Bush Lima Beans are known for their rich, buttery flavor and smooth texture, perfect for fresh eating, canning, or freezing. Unlike pole varieties, these plants stay small (around 18–20 inches tall) but produce abundantly over a long harvest window. They thrive in warm weather and are especially well-suited for southern and subtropical climates, though they grow beautifully anywhere with a full summer season.
PLANTING
Germination: 4-10 days
Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures are 70-85ºF
Seed Sowing Depth: 1” deep
Sowing: Direct sowing is preferred after the last frost. In warmer climates can also direct sow at end of summer for a fall harvest.
Harvest: If you want to enjoy the beans when they are fresh, just wait until the pods fill out, but harvest before the pods dry out. Or, if you're planning to use them as dried beans, let the pods dry out and then remove the beans from their pods. Store away in a cool, dry, dark place for long term storage.
Orders are shipped in 1-3 business days excluding holidays or delays due to natural disasters like hurricanes.
Seeds are shipped in bubble mailers so they will not be pushed through USPS roller machines which can damage the seeds. I will not ship seeds in an envelope for this reason.
Seeds will be shipped with no planting instructions to keep seed costs low to the buyer. Germination and plant care information is included in the description. I encourage each gardener to research specifics on how to be successful growing them. Orders with live plants are packed on Mondays and Thursdays (excluding holidays or delays because of natural disasters. Plants are shipped in boxes with packaging material to protect them while they are in transit.
No returns or refunds once shipped. I am not responsible for lost or damaged packages caused by USPS. Since there are so many factors that affect germination and growing success, no refunds or exchanges are allowed once seeds have shipped. These are the same seeds I use in my personal garden so I can attest to their viability. Seeds are fresh season to season.
