Large American Flag Leek Heirloom Seeds Vegetable Garden Seeds

Leeks don't grow a bulb like onions. Instead the white or light green portion of the stem (called the shank) is edible. It has a sweet onion and chive flavor mix that I just adore. Stalks can get up to 18 inches long with 3 inch wide stems. My favorite recipe with leeks is to make it with potatoes, like potato, bacon, and leek soup. Leeks can grow in a wide range conditions and are suitable for zones 2 thru 11. It can also take on a lot of cold weather and snow. In the Southern parts of the USA, zones 8 and up, its best to grow leeks fall, winter, and spring.

Listing is for 1 packet of minimum 30 seeds

Follow me on social media because I post a lot of information on how to grow the very same seeds available in my shop, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok: jerrasgarden.

PLANTING

Allium ampeloprasum

When to sow your seeds:
In general, sow seeds indoors 10-12 weeks before your last average spring frost date. You can sow seeds for another crop 8 weeks before your first winter frost date. In zones 8 and up - I recommend you sow seeds in August to transplant in October so they grow during the coolest part of the year. Fertilize seedlings when they are 3 inches or taller, once a week, with a liquid fertilizer, mixed at half strength of whatever the directions say.

Germination: 7 - 14 days

Seed Sowing: I sow them densely to grow out my own leek transplants. Sprinkle a bunch of seeds over a 10 inch x 20 inch flat (seed tray) or sprinkle a bunch over the surface of several 4 inch pots. When seedlings are around 6 inches long, separate all of them and transplant into the garden. Don't worry, leeks at this size will not have transplant shock due to disturbing the roots. Space them at minimum 6 inches apart so they have room to form thick stalks. ***It is very important to plant leeks deeply into the soil and hill either more soil or mulch high up its stalk called the shank, to "blanch" the shank*** This prevents sunlight from hitting the shank which will turn that spot into inedible tough dark leafy greens, instead of tender white edible stalks. Mix them throughout your garden and veggie crops to deter pests.

Harvest: Expect to harvest leeks 110 to 130 days from transplanting into the garden

Shipping Information

Orders are shipped in 1-3 business days excluding holidays or delays due to natural disasters like hurricanes.

Seeds are shipped in bubble mailers so they will not be pushed through USPS roller machines which can damage the seeds. I will not ship seeds in an envelope for this reason.

Seeds will be shipped with no planting instructions to keep seed costs low to the buyer. Germination and plant care information is included in the description. I encourage each gardener to research specifics on how to be successful growing them. I also have lots of information on my TikTok, Instagram and YouTube channel all under the account name jerrasgarden. I started this shop to share my love of certain seed varieties and spread the knowledge of gardening. Please contact me if you can't find information or have additional questions.

Orders with live plants are packed on Mondays and Thursdays (excluding holidays or delays because of natural disasters. Plants are shipped in boxes with packaging material to protect them while they are in transit.

Refunds & Exchanges

No returns or refunds once shipped. I am not responsible for lost or damaged packages caused by USPS. Since there are so many factors that affect germination and growing success, no refunds or exchanges are allowed once seeds have shipped. These are the same seeds I use in my personal garden so I can attest to their viability. Seeds are fresh season to season.
