Gorgeous bright blue flowers that are commonly used to make an very high antioxidant rich tea. This is a very easy to grow vining plant that once established produces tons of flowers during the warmest times of the year. The more often you harvest the flowers, the more it will bloom. Simply dry the flowers on a paper towel for about 2 weeks and store away. Commonly used to make a soothing calming tea or can be powdered up and used as a natural food dye. The tea goes great with other flavors such as lemon grass. This is also used as a fun experiment as the blue tea will turn pink when you add a few drops of something acidic (such as lemon juice). This is a tropical plant from Southeast Asia and will require protection in temperatures get too low.

PLANTING & GROWING

Germination: 7-10 days

Seed Sowing Depth: 1/2” deep

Sowing: Can direct sow or start in pots after the last frost. If you live in colder climates, grow in a pot with a small trellis and bring the plan in doors during the winter.

Sun: This plant grows best in full sun but can also handle partial shade

Soil: This plant is not picky when it comes to soil. It can grow in poor soils given some fertilizer every now and then. I like to use an organic all purpose granular fertilizer.

Cold Hardiness: This is a perennial plant in sub tropical and tropical climates. It can survive in USDA garden zones 9 and up.

Plant Growth: This is a vining plant and grows best on a trellis or some sort of vertical support. Vines get very long, often reaching over 15FT.

Flowers: Plants typically start to bloom about 6 months after being started from seed. The vines produce the most flowers continuously during the warmer months. During the colder parts of the year, such as fall and winter, the plant slows its growth and stops flowering. It can even drop leaves and go into a kind of winter dormancy.

Harvesting the flowers: Flowers bloom for 1 or 2 days. Harvest in the morning once the dew has dried, when the flower is fully open. Gently rinse with cold water before using. Can use flowers fresh to brew teas etc... but the dried flowers release more blue color which means you end up using less of them. To dry the flowers - set in a single layer to air dry.

Shipping Information

Orders are shipped in 1-3 business days excluding holidays or delays due to natural disasters like hurricanes.

Seeds are shipped in bubble mailers so they will not be pushed through USPS roller machines which can damage the seeds. I will not ship seeds in an envelope for this reason.

Seeds will be shipped with no planting instructions to keep seed costs low to the buyer. Germination and plant care information is included in the description. I encourage each gardener to research specifics on how to be successful growing them. I also have lots of information on my TikTok, Instagram and YouTube channel all under the account name jerrasgarden. I started this shop to share my love of certain seed varieties and spread the knowledge of gardening. Please contact me if you can't find information or have additional questions.

Orders with live plants are packed on Mondays and Thursdays (excluding holidays or delays because of natural disasters. Plants are shipped in boxes with packaging material to protect them while they are in transit.

Refunds & Exchanges

No returns or refunds once shipped. I am not responsible for lost or damaged packages caused by USPS. Since there are so many factors that affect germination and growing success, no refunds or exchanges are allowed once seeds have shipped. These are the same seeds I use in my personal garden so I can attest to their viability. Seeds are fresh season to season.
