Tom Thumb Dwarf Mix Nasturtium Seeds - Edible Annual Heirloom Flower Seeds
Tropaeolum nanum
Listing is for 1 packet of 15 seeds

This is a dwarf cultivar of nasturtiums which makes it perfect for smaller gardens or growing underneath taller veggie crops (like tomatoes and peppers). Plants stay around 10 inches. I always plant a ton of nasturtiums in my garden as they serve so many purposes. The flowers are edible and have a nice peppery flavor. The plants are low sprawling and cover unused areas of my garden or walkways to block out weeds. Most importantly, they attract a lot of beneficial insects and are a "trap crop" for aphids. Basically, the aphids would rather bother the nasturtium plants than infest my veggie crops. Whenever I plant tons of nasturtiums I don't get the typical infestation of aphids in the spring time. They reseed easily all around the garden.

Ideal Growing Conditions

Sun: Full Sun

Water: Allow the soil to dry out a little bit in-between watering. Established plants are drought tolerant.

Fertilizer: Does not require a lot of fertilizer. Can give it some balanced fertilizer every now and them to promote lush growth and blooms.

When & How To Sow Seeds: Direct sow seeds after your last spring frost date or when you start planting your fall garden. Plant the seeds about 1/2 inch deep and keep the soil moist to help speed up germination.

Germination: 14-21 days

Days To Maturity: Usually starts blooming in 2 to 3 months from seed

How & When To Harvest: These flowers are edible and have a nice peppery flavor. To harvest, pinch off flowers in the early morning. Frequent harvesting and deadheading of spent flowers encourages more blooms.

Common Diseases:  Nasturtiums don't get too many diseases but in wet or humid environments can get powdery mildew or black spots. Improve airflow by proper plant spacing. Spray with 1 cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide per gallon of water to clean and disinfect.

Common Pests: The most common pest when growing are aphids. In fact, nasturtiums make a great trap crop by luring aphids away from other crops. Nasturtiums are vigorous growers and typically can handle the aphids but if the infestation gets severe, spray with organic insecticidal soap or spinosad.

Shipping Information

Orders are shipped in 1-3 business days excluding holidays or delays due to natural disasters like hurricanes.

Seeds are shipped in bubble mailers so they will not be pushed through USPS roller machines which can damage the seeds. I will not ship seeds in an envelope for this reason.

Seeds will be shipped with no planting instructions to keep seed costs low to the buyer. Germination and plant care information is included in the description. I encourage each gardener to research specifics on how to be successful growing them. I also have lots of information on my TikTok, Instagram and YouTube channel all under the account name jerrasgarden. I started this shop to share my love of certain seed varieties and spread the knowledge of gardening. Please contact me if you can't find information or have additional questions.

Orders with live plants are packed on Mondays and Thursdays (excluding holidays or delays because of natural disasters. Plants are shipped in boxes with packaging material to protect them while they are in transit.

Refunds & Exchanges

No returns or refunds once shipped. I am not responsible for lost or damaged packages caused by USPS. Since there are so many factors that affect germination and growing success, no refunds or exchanges are allowed once seeds have shipped. These are the same seeds I use in my personal garden so I can attest to their viability. Seeds are fresh season to season.

Great Seed! Great communication with Jerra.

Planted in seed tray on heating pad sprouting right up quickly. I put one seed underneath my green pepper plant. It sprouted quickly too.. The squirrels got the other ones under the tomato plants. I will be making some covers. My plants are in food grade buckets. I planted these wrong time of year my mistake. Trail and error gardening teaches me a-lot. Thank you Jerra.
