Viroflay Heirloom Spinach Seeds - Smooth Spinach Perfect for Salads & Cooking!
Spinacia oleracea
Listing is for 1 packet of minimum 25 seeds

Viroflay Spinach is a classic French heirloom variety known for its large, tender, dark green leaves and rich, buttery flavor. Perfect for salads, sautéing, soups, and smoothies, this fast-growing spinach produces massive leaves up to 10 inches long while remaining smooth and tender. Ideal for cool-season gardening, it thrives in early spring and fall, preferring moist, well-drained soil and partial to full sun. Sow seeds directly and harvest baby greens in just a few weeks or allow them to mature for larger leaves. With its high yield, cold tolerance, and delicious taste, Viroflay Spinach is a must-have for any home garden!

Ideal Growing Conditions

Sun: Does best getting 6 hours of sun a day. Grow in partial shade in hot climates.

Water: Keep the soil consistently moist

Fertilizer: Add some blood meal into the planting hole before transplanting or work some into the soil before direct sowing seeds.

When & How To Sow Seeds: Direct sow after your last spring frost date. Or for a fall crop, direct sow seeds when you start planting your fall garden. Can continue to direct sow seeds through winter provided with frost protection. Direct sowing is the easiest method. Rake some blood meal into the soil to give spinach a nitrogen boost. Sprinkle a few seeds over the soil surface, pat down, cover with 1/2 inch of soil, and water in. Keep the soil moist for better germination. Or if you prefer, sow a few seeds in containers, like a 4 inch pot or 72 cell seed tray. Transplant once the root system has developed and filled the container. Start fertilizing seedlings with a liquid fertilizer at half strength once the first set of true leaves appear.

Germination: 7-14 days

Days To Maturity: 40 days after direct sowing the seed

How & When To Harvest: Harvest individual leaves as needed.

Common Diseases: Fungal leaf diseases like downy mildew, black/yellow spot, and powdery mildew can sometimes be an issue especially in wet conditions. Proper plant spacing to improve air flow, not watering overhead, and pruning out excess foilage helps. Spray with 1 cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide per gallon of water every 3 to 5 days until you notice the spread has stopped.

Common Pests: The most common pest when growing spinach is aphids. Use a strong spray of water to dislodge aphids from the leaves. For more severe infestations, spray with organic insecticidal soap or spinosad.

Shipping Information

Orders are shipped in 1-3 business days excluding holidays or delays due to natural disasters like hurricanes.

Seeds are shipped in bubble mailers so they will not be pushed through USPS roller machines which can damage the seeds. I will not ship seeds in an envelope for this reason.

Seeds will be shipped with no planting instructions to keep seed costs low to the buyer. Germination and plant care information is included in the description. I encourage each gardener to research specifics on how to be successful growing them. I also have lots of information on my TikTok, Instagram and YouTube channel all under the account name jerrasgarden. I started this shop to share my love of certain seed varieties and spread the knowledge of gardening. Please contact me if you can't find information or have additional questions.

Orders with live plants are packed on Mondays and Thursdays (excluding holidays or delays because of natural disasters. Plants are shipped in boxes with packaging material to protect them while they are in transit.

Refunds & Exchanges

No returns or refunds once shipped. I am not responsible for lost or damaged packages caused by USPS. Since there are so many factors that affect germination and growing success, no refunds or exchanges are allowed once seeds have shipped. These are the same seeds I use in my personal garden so I can attest to their viability. Seeds are fresh season to season.
