Yellow Sweet Spanish Onion Seeds – Long Day Heirloom Onion Variety
Allium cepa
Listing is for 1 packet of minimum 30-50 seeds
***Long day onion variety for those that grow onions during the spring and early summer***

White Sweet Spanish Long Day onions are a classic heirloom variety prized for their large, globe-shaped bulbs, sweet mild flavor, and crisp white flesh. Perfect for northern gardeners, these onions thrive where summer days are long, producing bulbs up to a pound or more when grown under the right conditions. Originally developed in the late 19th century, they’ve been a favorite in home gardens for generations thanks to their versatility in the kitchen—delicious raw in salads, sliced for sandwiches, or caramelized for rich, savory dishes. They store well for several months, making them a great choice for both fresh eating and winter storage.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

Check out my YouTube video tutorial all about how to grow large bulbing onions: https://youtu.be/g35dF8aVDhw

When to sow your seeds: ***These are long day onions and will properly bulb if grown during the time of year when the day light hours are the longest, which is spring and summer. Long day onions are better suited for Northern parts of the USA*** Start seeds indoors 10–12 weeks before your last expected spring frost. Transplant outdoors once seedlings are about 6-8 inches tall and the soil can be worked—generally 2–4 weeks before your last spring frost date. Fertilize seedlings when they are 3 inches or taller, once a week, with a liquid fertilizer, mixed at half strength of whatever the directions say.

Germination: 7 - 14 days Onions are slow to germinate

Seed Sowing: I sow them densely to grow out my own onion transplants. Sprinkle a bunch of seeds over a 10 inch x 20 inch flat (seed tray) or sprinkle a bunch over the surface of several 4 inch pots. When seedlings are around 6 inches long, separate all of them and transplant into the garden. Don't worry, onions at this size will not have transplant shock due to disturbing the roots. Space them at minimum 4 inches apart so they have room to form big bulbs. Mix them throughout your garden and veggie crops to deter pests.

Harvest: Can start harvesting when the onions greens or tops begin to fold over. Personally, I like to wait until all of the greens have turned brown and dried out.

Shipping Information

Orders are shipped in 1-3 business days excluding holidays or delays due to natural disasters like hurricanes.

Seeds are shipped in bubble mailers so they will not be pushed through USPS roller machines which can damage the seeds. I will not ship seeds in an envelope for this reason.

Seeds will be shipped with no planting instructions to keep seed costs low to the buyer. Germination and plant care information is included in the description. I encourage each gardener to research specifics on how to be successful growing them. I also have lots of information on my TikTok, Instagram and YouTube channel all under the account name jerrasgarden. I started this shop to share my love of certain seed varieties and spread the knowledge of gardening. Please contact me if you can't find information or have additional questions.

Orders with live plants are packed on Mondays and Thursdays (excluding holidays or delays because of natural disasters. Plants are shipped in boxes with packaging material to protect them while they are in transit.

Refunds & Exchanges

No returns or refunds once shipped. I am not responsible for lost or damaged packages caused by USPS. Since there are so many factors that affect germination and growing success, no refunds or exchanges are allowed once seeds have shipped. These are the same seeds I use in my personal garden so I can attest to their viability. Seeds are fresh season to season.
